Year of New Beer: 30th Anniversary Ale, Boulevard Brewing Co (Kansas City)

Tons of dark fruit on the nose with grapes, figs, plums, and prunes being joined by burnt sugars and strong influences of red wine and sherry. Very vinous on the tongue, with hints of oak char, vanilla, and a light chocolate. The Belgian strong ale aspects stand out. Lightly spiced, with a sweet, dark fruit backing. I know the bourbon aged beers used in this blend make up a smaller percentage, but they really seem to get lost here, as this continues to be dominated by the sweeter port and wine notes through the finish. Not a bad beer at all, just a bit different than I was expecting.
