Year of New Beer: Bourbon County Brand Mon Chéri Stout, Goose Island Beer Co (Chicago)

After being incredibly disappointed by the Cafe de Olla, I came into this one with lowered expectations. The nose opens very similarly to the base beer, which is good. Rich chocolate, mild barrel character, and a subtle charred malt. The cherry is administered with a fairly deft hand, combining with the brown sugar to create an almost spicy aroma. Slightly more cherry presence on the tongue, but not so much as to seem artificial or cough syrupy. It actually blends quite nicely with the chocolate and brown sugar, and is well-balanced by a roasty malt and oak note. Alcohol is incredibly well-hidden. Beer is so subjective, and I'm sure many won't like this, but I found it to be very enjoyable.
