Year of New Beer: Barrel Aged Christmas Warmer, Rock House Brewing (Lexington)

The nose leaves little doubt as to what they were shooting for here, as this just screams "Christmas". Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and star anise lead the way, with rye and notes of freshly baked spice cake coming on with warmth. Heavily spiced on the tongue, with everything mentioned above. But it's balanced by caramel and brown sugar, with a sneaky alcohol heat. Rye spice and oak on the finish. This isn't going to be for everyone, but I think it's well done.
