Year of New Beer: Lil' Nut, Rock House Brewing (Lexington)

Coconut cream pie is one of my favorites, and my wife makes the absolute best. It has the perfect coconut aroma, and a deliciously sweet, rich flavor. How you manage to convert that into a beer, I have no clue. But Rock House does. From the minute this hits the glass, it is a spot-on representation of the pie. Toasted coconut in abundance, a light and creamy meringue, and a perfectly flaky crust. The aroma sticks to the glass even after it is empty. Unreal. Transitions to the tongue in identical fashion. Sweet, but there's just enough toast to the coconut and crust to provide balance. The meringue comes through with a smooth, subtle note of vanilla. Flavors remain solid through the finish. Much like their Key Lime Pie Gose, this one just has to be tasted to really get it. Well done.
