Year of New Beer: Coconut Coffee Stout, Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver)

Nice aroma that opens up with plenty of cocoa and a solid coffee kick. Charred toast and a bit of burnt sugar come on with warmth, as does a very modest coconut. On the tongue, the cocoa powder lean gets a touch sweeter, but the coffee becomes a little harsh, slightly acrid. Luckily some dark fruit notes and a sturdy roasted malt push that aside, allowing a toasted coconut to emerge toward the finish. Wish the coconut presence was a little stronger, but overall this is a solid imperial stout.
