Year of New Beer: Truth, Rhinegeist Brewery (OH)

The nose is immediately assaulted with citrus--orange, pineapple, and mango-while lesser notes of caramel and shortbread are present as well. On the tongue, the sweetness is derived from candied fruits and a light toffee, followed by a hint of earthy tobacco, while the hop assault rolls in with a piney, pithy intensity that holds on through the finish. Excellent IPA. Eventually, the rest of the country will take note of what is going on in the brewing triangle of Lexington-Louisville-Cincinnati. Until then, I will quietly (selfishly?) buy up those goodies and share with friends.
