Year of New Beer: Multiple Beers

As with any trip to "The Garage", many excellent beers were opened. But tonight was a little different, as are most things these days. The times dictate smaller gatherings, but that doesn't make them any less enjoyable, and tonight was good. I narrowed it down to three...Coconut Coffee Medianoche, Weldwerks Brewing Co (CO). Outstanding nose that serves up coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts in succession, with a sweet but subdued coconut. Viscous on the tongue, coffee forward with baker's chocolate and charred malts adding a touch of bitterness. Coconut is again subtle, but it smooths the edges nicely. Delicious. Up next was Flambé, also from Weldwerks. In short, this is bananas foster in a glass. Huge spice note on the nose as the cinnamon and rum barrel assert themselves over burnt sugar and vanilla. Perfect transition to the palate where once again the rum throws its weight around, but caramel gains equal footing moving through the glass. Excellent. Lastly was Guideline, HOMES Brewery (MI). Nothing fancy or groundbreaking, just a really enjoyable double IPA. Soft citrus that is smooth and silky thanks to the oats. Could drink this one on the regular.
