Year of New Beer: Willet Bourbon Barrel-Aged Gonzo Imperial Porter, Flying Dog Brewery (MD)

Bittersweet chocolate leads the the way on the nose. Hints of bread crust and coffee bean sneak out amidst the light caramel and vanilla of the bourbon the lurks beneath it all. The barrel aging is more evident on the taste buds as a layer of caramel steps up a bit alongside the chocolate. Toasted bread crust and a touch of bourbon heat along the middle, tempered by some malty sweetness. The more this warms, the more an earthy bitterness builds, getting borderline harsh. I guess my advice would be to drink it a little faster. Doesn't drink as big as the listed ABV (11.5%). At any rate, this is a pretty solid barrel-aged porter for the price.
