Year of New Beer (Round 3): Barrel Aged Maibock, Blue Stallion Brewing/Alltech-KY Ale (Lexington)

A third stop for a Beer Week collab between Lexington's oldest and newest breweries. Wishing I had taken the time to get a better picture, because this beer surprised me. Full disclosure-I'm just not a huge fan of most German styles, and I came in expecting to dislike this one. The nose is nice, with an earthy, almost nutty grain being joined by a sweet bourbon heat that complements without overpowering. The flavors mirror the nose well, with a hearty caramel/bready malt providing a nice base for the bourbon and mild oak. Easily my favorite beer from either brewery. Enjoyed with a great steak quesadilla fromEllos on Broadway.
