Year of New Beer (Round 2): Gose, Westbrook Brewing (SC)

The can pretty much tells the story on this one. Gose is a really old, German style sour wheat beer brewed with salt and coriander, and this one is all those things in spades. The nose is tart, even from the can. A puckering sourness greets the tongue, full of lemon-lime, followed quickly by a briney layer, leading to an acidic bite in a finish layered with hay. I've only had one other Gose with which to compare, that being the more reserved Ghost Gose from Country Boy in Lexington, but this one is probably truer to the style guidelines. Perhaps I'll give this one another shot at a later date.
