Year of New Beer: Shane's Big DIPA, Westbrook Brewing (SC)

Fantastic nose comprised of pineapple, grapefruit, mango, and a truckload of herbal, catty hops. Smells like Simcoe, or backstage at a Willie Nelson concert. On the tongue is a wonderful blend of tropical fruits, honey sweetness, and a grassy hop kick, along with the faintest hint of the oniony hop that is reminiscent of Oskar Blues Gubna. This is an incredibly well-balanced double IPA that hides its alcohol masterfully. I hope that KY distribution is somewhere on Westbrook Brewing's radar...until then, I'll be thankful I picked this one up at Hop City in Birmingham.
