
Year of New Beer: Heresy, Weyerbacher Brewing (PA)

An Imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels, the nose is dominated by just that--whiskey. Only hints of coffee and bitter chocolate sneak through, and it's pretty much the same story in the flavor department. Just not the layers I would like to see in a barrel-aged stout. A few years ago, this one would have really wowed me. Now, with better barrel-aged beers coming from right here in KY, namely Country Boy Brewing RX Strength Imperial Stout and Against The Grain Brewery Bo & Luke, I'm a little tougher to impress.
