Year of New Beer: Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, The Schlafly Taproom (MO)
Written By: Dion on 12/28/2014
Lots of oak, chocolate, sweet bourbon, and a nice smokey char on the nose. On the tongue, the bourbon heat is fairly strong, with an oak note that is balanced pretty well by a generous sweetness from the chocolate. As the beer warms, a roasted coffee bean and vanilla gets a bit stronger. The body is a tad thin for a Russian imperial, but for the price, this is a very good and undoubtedly overlooked beer.
