Year of New Beer: Lord Rear Admiral, Three Floyds Brewing (IN)

Nose opens with a solid caramel malt and an earthy, pine hop note. On the tongue, the hop bitterness is initially a touch floral, but soon goes stronger, almost evergreen in nature. An underlying mild sweetness of brown sugar and caramel malt ultimately succumbs to the hop punch. I wasn't expecting Three Floyds to make a restrained ESB like Fullers, and they certainly didn't. This one really started to grow on me about a third of the way into the bottle. Nice beer.
