Year of New Beer: Mercer County, West 6th Brewing (Lexington)

Written By: Dion on 05/28/2015

Having missed out on the previous County releases due to work, I was excited to learn that this one had been produced in a larger quantity. Honestly, based on the description, I thought this could be good...or a gigantic miss. So tonight I popped the cork and poured a beautiful beer, golden orange with a crisp white head. On the nose is an unmistakable, classic margarita aroma...citrusy with an abundance of lime, while traces of tequila and salt are content to linger in the background. These elements transition seamlessly to the tongue, resulting in exactly what I believe the guys were aiming for...refreshingly crisp, lightly sweet, and stealthy in its bite. The sugars of the Transylvania Tripel are nicely balanced by the the tart aspects of the Meadoweisse. I wasn't sure this blend would work, but for me, it does. At 9% ABV, it's hardly "light", but it drinks as if it is. I think this is a great summer beer, and I would advise grabbing a bottle or two while they last. I'll be there when the doors open tomorrow. Well done Ben, Brady, Joe, Robin, and all the crew at West 6th!
