Year of New Beer: Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout, Abita Brewing (LA)

Having held on to this since mid-February, I was a little concerned that some of the coffee qualities might have faded. No worries though, as the aroma of freshly brewed bean comes through boldly, with hints of chocolate, burnt sugar, and cream on the side. On the tongue comes a similar mix of flavors as the espresso presents as slightly charred before being tamed by the milk sugars. A very mild hop bitterness works well with the milk chocolate and toasted marshmallow that show up as the beer warms. Just a tad thin overall, but this is a really nice beer, probably the best I've had from Abita.
