Year of New Beer: Battery Brown Ale, Freehouse Brewery (Charleston, SC)

Written By: Dion on 07/11/2015

Named after the historic homes that line Charleston's famed Battery, this brown ale emulates those dwellings through its rich, sturdy body that reeks of timelessness. Roasted nuts and aromatic coffee bean fill the nose, with cursory bits of chocolate and damp earth. On the tongue is a bittersweet cocoa powder that balances the toasted malts and slightly herbal hop bite, leaving the nutshell and bread crust to linger on the tongue. A very nice beer, and the perfect pairing to the rustic country supper I had tonight.
