
Year of New Beer: Wigsplitter, 3 Floyds Brewing (IN)

When a beer puts forth an exquisite aroma and manages to duplicate it on the tongue, you have something pretty special. This one does it effortlessly. Sweet milk chocolate and gently roasted coffee bean comprise the bulk of the simple but effective nose. On the tongue the flavors blend seamlessly, aided by the creamy smoothness of the oatmeal. Lush and rich without being too heavy, no one aspect overpowers the other. I'm not usually too fond of 3 Floyds beers that stray from the hops, hops, and more hops formula...but this one nails it.
