Year of New Beer: Silencio, Wicked Weed Brewing (Asheville)

The nose presents initially with a lot of vinous, almost red wine funk. With a bit of warmth, the coffee starts to shine, joined by hints of sweet vanilla. Bourbon character doesn't really come out until the very end of the glass. Tart fruits and berries hit the tongue first, followed by an ever increasing wave of coffee and slightly bitter chocolate. Only faint traces of spicy oak are found on a dry finish. Would be even better with a touch more vanilla sweetness, but that's a minor complaint. Deliciously unusual beer.
