Year of New Beer: Lunch, Maine Beer Co (ME)

When you get a text, from a number you don't recognize, that says "I'm in Maine, do you want any beer?", the correct answer is "Yes." Followed, of course, by "Who is this?" So tonight I get to try a beer that's been on my want list for quite some time, and let's just say I'm not disappointed! Bottled just 10 days ago, the nose is pungent with grapefruit and orange rind, lemon zest, and background notes of fresh grasses. On the tongue comes initial waves of citrus pith, accompanied by very faint caramel malt and traces of honey. These lightly sweet elements are extremely short-lived as the grassy, bitter hop bite begins to take hold for a dry, stripping finish. I now understand the hype behind this outstanding IPA. Delicious.
