Year of New Beer: Garage Tasting

When you find yourself at "The Garage", rest assured that good beverages will be enjoyed. Many wonderful bottles were sampled tonight, but for me, three stood out. Up first, The Statement, Schramm's Mead (MI). Being somewhat of a neophyte to meads, I simply don't have the skill level to do this justice. Suffice it to say, this is just straight up alcoholic cherry juice that defies description. Absolutely delicious. Many thanks to Sean Foley for sharing. Secondly was Leopold, Westbrook Brewing (SC). Tart peaches on the nose that transfer unimpeded to the tongue, along with a lemon zest and oak character. Puckering with a sweet tart candy quality. Very nice. Lastly was another mead, Clone of Darkness, Elbow Deep Brewing (KY). Maybe someday one of the best brewers in Lexington will quit his day job and turn pro. Until then, we have to be satisfied with treats like this 10 year old gem. Fruity with notes of cherry, plum, and sweet apples. Dangerously drinkable given its heft.
