Year of New Beer: Belgian Dark, Country Boy Brewing (Lexington)

Brewed in conjunction with Hidden Springs of Tampa, this strong ale boasts a hearty nose that features hints of banana, brown sugar, dark fruits, and a definitive Belgian yeast character. On the tongue, the sweetness becomes almost caramel-like, wrapped around hints of raisins and grapes. A subtle earthiness works well with themalty backbone, doing an effective job of masking the warming alcohol. The yeast note is prevalent on the tongue also, but integrated very well. This is really nice, and I would love to see some of it go into a few of the many barrels Country Boy has in their possession. Bourbon? Wine? Sherry? Yes. The answer is yes.
